Isn’t it just annoying when you take the time out to finally dust that top shelf that has been nagging at you for weeks, only to find that the dust you chased away has now found a new home on the lower shelf? If yes, breathe because we’ve all been there. Now, you’ve taken the right step by looking for the best vacuum cleaners for Indian homes (2022).

The more beautiful your home, the harder it will be to keep it clean. Simply dry-dusting surfaces will just make the dust fly everywhere and keeping carpets, upholsteries, and curtains neat and fresh will begin to feel like a five-year project. Still, we must clean our homes, and vacuum cleaners definitely make it easier.

In a place like India where dust is abundant, when you can see it being sucked right up instead of flying everywhere, it can certainly feel like you’re finally winning the war on dust. However, did you know that a vacuum cleaner can actually harm indoor air quality? Yes, it can.

In fact, there are many other aspects of vacuum cleaners that most of us either don’t know or understand properly. This is why we’ve created this guide on vacuum cleaners, what they’re capable of against indoor pollution, and why they can change your life in more ways than one.

We’ve, of course, also reviewed the best vacuum cleaners in India (2022) so that you don’t have to go through the hassle of evaluating multiple products available in the market.

Here’s everything you’ll find in this guide, laid out in a very easy-to-use and clickable navigation panel.

What is the Effect of Vacuum Cleaners on Indoor Air Quality?

Even though we buy vacuum cleaners for cleaning our homes thoroughly, studies have shown that they can, in fact, have a deleterious effect on indoor air quality.

In effect, vacuum cleaning can be a source of allergies and a trigger for breathing-related sensitivities. It’s hard to imagine that our efforts of cleaning can lead to such problems. So, let’s understand why that happens.

The tiny dust particles suspended in the air are known as particulate matter (PM). Particulate matter ranges from very small to a size that is visible to the human eye and is one of the prime constituents of indoor air pollutants.

Vacuum cleaners have powerful motors that are capable of creating negative pressure to draw in this particulate matter, which is how the cleaning is achieved. However, in this process, they also let out a powerful stream of air that can kick up additional dust increasing the PM levels immediately.

Since most people suffer from some degree of sensitivity towards dust, this can trigger allergies. But more on that later.

This ‘dust resuspension’ effect is easily observable if there is an air purifier in the room being vacuumed. If the air purifier is equipped with an automatic PM sensor, the air purifier will start displaying elevated levels of PM when the vacuum cleaner is turned on.

Not only this, if the dust collection system of the vacuum cleaner is not sealed properly, the smallest particles can leak out, completely, foiling your endeavors towards a dust-free home.  So, then what must we do? Labor for hours wiping dust layers with damp sponges when we know it can be done in minutes?

No, simply opt for a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter and a ‘sealed system’. When a vacuum cleaner is equipped with a HEPA filter then you can rest assured that it will trap any PM in the volume of air drawn in before letting it out. And a ‘sealed system’ will ensure that none of the trapped particles are reintroduced into the air.

How Do ‘HEPA Vacuum Cleaners Work’?

Dust particles come in all ranges and sizes and the smallest ones like the PM 2.5 cause the most allergies and distress for those with breathing difficulties and sometimes even minor sensitivities. Most old vacuum cleaners are simply not built to trap the smallest particulate matter in the air like PM 2.5.

In fact, since these particles were themselves only recently discovered by science, chances are that if you have an old vacuum cleaner or one without HEPA, it’s only kicking up and recirculating the PM back in the air.

The dust bags too are meant to hold the type of particulate matter that can be seen with the naked eye like large dust particles, pet dander, hair, etc. They just don’t do a very good job of containing smaller particles.

Modern-day vacuum cleaners are mostly equipped with HEPA filters. HEPA filter stands for ‘High-Efficiency Particulate Air’ filter and is capable of trapping particles as small as 0.3 microns. They’re made of high-density paper that has randomly distributed fibers.

When the air passes through a HEPA filter the small particles get trapped within the fibers of the filter and the clean air is let out. Therefore, even if a vacuum cleaner ends up kicking up already settled particulate matter if it has a HEPA filter inside it, the PM is filtered out rather than recirculated into the air.

Most HEPA vacuum cleaners are designed to trap really small particles so, it is very rare that you will find a HEPA vacuum cleaner that is not contained in a ‘sealed system’. A ‘sealed system’ ensures that the contents of the dust bag/container are well contained. Sometimes, it’s just a rubber seal but it does ensure that there is proper containment of your cleaning bounties.

Most vacuum cleaners in this guide are HEPA vacuum cleaners and have cleared our test for not raising PM alarms when turned on. But after all this talk of PM the question remains, can vacuum cleaners help allergies?

Can Vacuum Cleaners Help Allergies?

Yes, absolutely.

A lot of people suffer from dust-related allergies with many also coping with other triggers such as dust mites, spores, and animal dander.

Since a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter can effectively filter out particulates up to 0.3 microns in size, it can remove most allergy triggers from the home environment. Basically, a HEPA vacuum cleaner can help with allergies or sensitivities triggered by particulates.

On the other hand, even a HEPA vacuum cleaner cannot avert allergic reactions that are triggered by odors or gases. This is simply because HEPA cannot trap gasses. However, if the HEPA filter in the vacuum cleaner has an inbuilt activated carbon filter, then that may neutralize gasses and help avert allergies of this type too.

If you are suffering from allergies, there are other variables worth considering too. For instance, you’ll want to choose a bagless vacuum cleaner to avoid the need to take risks while cleaning the vacuum cleaner bag.

Talking of ‘with bag’ and ‘bagless’ vacuum cleaners, let’s see what other types of vacuum cleaners are out there in the market.

Types Of Vacuum Cleaners

There are so many different types of vacuum cleaners in the market that it is essential to know which kind you want before you go vacuum cleaner hunting. Pick the wrong kind of vacuum and you’ll see yourself ditching the vacuum for the mop and duster so fast, you’ll surprise yourself.

The features of the device as well as which locations it is best for will depend on its design. All vacuum cleaners have the same components, a motor, a cleaning head, a dust collection bag, and a HEPA filter. However, how they’re organized in the housing unit is how vacuum cleaners’ designs differ.

Naturally, they all have their pros and cons too. Read on to pick the best one for your home.

Canister Vacuum Cleaners

Canister vacuum cleaners are the kind of vacuum cleaners where the motor and the dust collection tank are housed in a separate unit.

The cleaning head is connected to the housing unit with a hose that is pliable and therefore, easy to maneuver. Canister vacuum cleaners generally have strong motors and therefore are always corded.

The collection receptacle maybe a bag or bagless type but always stays with the motor on the floor while the head is maneuvered on the surface being cleaned. The cord is usually long in the corded type of vacuum cleaners to provide range and therefore, most companies offer an automatic retraction system for making it easier to deal with the cord.

The canister-type vacuum cleaner is very versatile. There are dry-only types that collect only dry dust and there are wet/dry ones that can tackle both types of messes. The dry ones have only one collection tank whereas there are two separate tanks in the wet/dry type canister vacuum cleaner.

It works very well on hard surfaces like different types of flooring, mats, and stairs. With the provided attachments, it can also be used on curtains and wall moldings.

While this design does provide sufficient power to tackle almost any type of mess, the only drawback is that it can be a tad cumbersome due to the fact that it is corded and has a two-unit design.

Stick/Sweeper Vacuum Cleaners

These types of vacuum cleaners evolved from upright vacuum cleaners.

Upright vacuum cleaners are the types where everything i.e., the cleaning head, the collection bag, and the motor are organized around the central hose that runs from the cleaning head to the operating handle.

These vacuum cleaners are quite famous in western countries because they can be used conveniently to sweep large carpeted areas. Their drawback comes from the fact that they are quite big and bulky, and therefore not suitable for smaller messes. Further, they’re not very maneuverable either.

This is where the stick vacuum cleaners came in. They also have a one-piece design but they tend to be lighter and slimmer. The motor is much smaller and mounted near the handle rather than at the bottom giving the head much more maneuverability. The bag is replaced by a dust collection cup to make it even more light and easy to use.

There are not too many upright vacuum cleaners available in the Indian market because they just do not perform well in the average Indian home setup. Further, the stick/sweeper vacuum cleaner can achieve almost identical results, which is why we do not have upright vacuum cleaners on our list.

These vacuum cleaners can be corded or cordless. However, since portability and ease of use is the feature that gives sweeper/stick their distinct edge, we’ve only picked the best cordless stick/sweeper type vacuum cleaners for our list.

These come with a rechargeable battery and sometimes an additional battery pack and are way better than the upright vacuum cleaners in every sense.

Compact Vacuum Cleaners

These vacuum cleaners are an even smaller version of the stick/sweeper vacuum cleaners.

They are usually handheld and do not have the long hose of a stick/sweeper type vacuum cleaner and have slightly lower suction power than other designs.

Therefore, while canister and stick vacuum cleaners are ideal for large surfaces, these aren’t.

However, the compact vacuum cleaner’s design makes it the ultimate solution for cleaning small messes around the house or even your car. An added advantage of this type of vacuum cleaner is that it can be used to clean multiple surfaces and not just the floors. Small shelves, tabletops, window sills, and even the armrests and back of couches can be easily accessed.

Also, sometimes there are messes that you feel are so small that you think you should just get down on all fours and do the job rather than fire up the vac. This kind of vacuum cleaner is built precisely for those scenarios.

If it is charged, it would take you the same time to reach for it rather than a duster, but it will save you time and effort on the act of cleaning itself. Just turn it on, clean up the mess, and then point it at your pet like it’s an alien weapon. It serves many purposes.

You can get this type of vacuum cleaner in both corded and cordless form. However, we feel that the cord takes away from its greatest quality – portability.

So, we’ve picked the best cordless compact vacuum cleaners for our list. If you are looking for a quick way to clean up after kids and pets or the insides of your car, then compact vacuum cleaners are the best.

Robotic Vacuum Cleaners

Robotic vacuum cleaners for Indian homes weren’t that readily available before the pandemic forced everyone to reconsider their priorities.

However, once people lost their ever-present maids, they had to figure out how to clean their homes without getting down on their knees themselves. This is how robotic vacuum cleaners got popular.

History aside, robotic vacuum cleaners represent the newest technology in vacuum cleaning.

Robotic vacuum cleaners don’t just make the job of cleaning easy; they literally take it out of your hands.

These are thick disk-shaped devices and float effortlessly on your floor, dodging your furniture, walls, pets, and any crawling babies all the while cleaning and mopping.

There is usually a charging port situated close to the floor where the robot docks and charges. Once charged the robotic vac maps your house and cleans every nook and corner. There are many different types of mapping technologies that are enabled in different brands of robotic vacs. The most advanced is the LIDAR technology that ensures that no corner is left uncleaned.

The robotic vacuum also has sensors to go around obstacles and soft edges to not damage any surfaces. Most robotic vacuum cleaners can also sense when there is a drop in the surface like the stairs and are well equipped to turn around and save themselves from harm. So, rest assured you will not have to run after the robotic vacuum cleaner, although your kids may want to.

There are robotic vacs that just suck up the dust and those that do wet mopping along with dusting as well. The wet ones do a pretty good job of taking away any sticky stains from the floor.

The robotic vacuum cleaners are the newest type of vacuum cleaners so most of them are equipped with HEPA filters. Read on to find the factors to consider before picking a vacuum cleaner for your home.

Things To Consider Before Buying a Vacuum Cleaner

Which best vacuum cleaner is best for your home and are you sure it can cater to your specific requirements? This isn’t an easy question to answer.

While knowing the types of vacuum cleaners is important, it is far more important to recognize why you’re choosing to buy one. This will help you select wisely without getting confused between conflicting features and technologies

Here are a few things to consider before buying:

What Kind of Mess?

Are you looking to clean dry messes or are you dealing with watery ones? Knowing this is obviously critical.

Only a wet/dry type of vacuum cleaner is equipped to deal with wet messes.

All the other varieties are only meant for dry messes and can never be used to clean up wet messes.

How Much Mess?

This means knowing what is the general size of particles you would be dealing with and also the area that is required to be cleaned.

Is it just common household dust or larger debris or even stones?

Is it just the carpeted area or an entire car garage surface?

Knowing this is important because dealing with larger particles and areas requires more power.

If you are dealing with larger particles of dust and debris spread over a larger surface, the best vacuum cleaner for you would be the corded type. With a corded vacuum cleaner, will not have to worry constantly about running out of power. Corded vacs can also support stronger motors so they tend to have more power.

On the other hand, if your requirement is the usual and typical such as cleaning a normal-sized carpet or flooring and cleaning after kids or common furniture surfaces, then going for a large vac might not be optimal.

In fact, it may deter your cleaning efforts because of the cumbersome usage. For such scenarios, go for a cordless or compact vacuum cleaner.

How Much Space Do You Have to Store It?

This is a factor that is often overlooked by buyers. If your vacuum cleaner is stashed away in your loft, it’s highly unlikely that you will use it often. To actually be able to use it often enough, you will have to keep it accessible and close at hand. However, if you do not have the space in your home to keep it handy, then even an amazing vac will not do you any good.

Canister vacuum cleaners take up more space than stick/sweeper types. Compact vacuum cleaners are the smallest and can actually be stored in a large drawer. Some stick/sweeper vacuum cleaners can even be mounted on the wall saving precious floor space.

Top 2 Dry Canister Vacuum Cleaners: Detailed Reviews

#1: AmazonBasics Cylinder Bagless Vacuum Cleaner

Editor’s Rating: 8/10

Amazon is just so good at designing products at a decent price point that it’s pretty much assured that any Amazon product will blow the competition out of the water.

This one is no different.

This Amazonbasics cylinder vacuum cleaner is a 700-watt machine which is decent suction power for cleaning most domestic messes.

The product comes equipped with cyclonic technology that is meant to provide intense suction power to effectively take in air, dirt, dust, pet hair, and other debris.

The suction power can also be regulated by an easy-to-use sliding button as it does not make sense to use full power for all messes.

This vacuum cleaner is an all-rounder as it can pretty much cover all dirty surfaces in a domestic setup. The main parquet brush is very effective over soft surfaces like carpets and even hard ones like tiled or wooden flooring. There are three other attachments too.

There’s a crevice nozzle for cleaning in tight spaces like couches and other upholstery corners along with a duster brush for smaller spaces like shelves, window sills, and tabletops. The third one is an upholstery brush that is very effective over couches and curtains. All these attachments can be kept neat and organized with a holder attachment.

It is pretty straightforward to use it as well. Simply plug and turn it on with the button on the main unit. Since the power on and off button is on the main unit and stays on the floor it can be assumed that it is meant to be operated by foot.

There is a cable retract button alongside too to be used after you’re done. Be careful not to get confused between the two since they look very similar.

The dust is collected in a 1.5-liter reusable dust cup. This means that there is no need to buy additional collection bags. When you’re done cleaning, simply pop it open on top of a bin, that’s all. The design of the collection cup makes for easy disposal too without too much exposure to the contents of the cylinder.

Further, it has a washable HEPA grade 12 filter that captures more than 99.5% of all particles. It is also quite energy-efficient with an energy efficiency rating of AAA. It is compact and lightweight and not the loudest of vacuum cleaners (78 decibels).

Amazon is offering 2 Years Limited Warranty in case of manufacturing defects.

All in all, it is an all-rounder that has all the features one could ask for in a dry vacuum cleaner at a very competitive price point.

Who’s it for: If you’re looking for a no-fuss HEPA vacuum cleaner that has enough suction power to effectively tackle domestic messes without paying a fortune, this is the one to pick up.

#2: Philips PowerPro FC9352/01 Compact Bagless Vacuum Cleaner

Editor’s Rating: 8.5/10

You can always rely on Philips to deliver dependable and outstanding products. This one is for the ones that were left unsatisfied with the suction power of the Amazonbasics cylinder bagless vacuum cleaner.

This machine has a 1900-watts motor for considerably stronger suction. The extra power doesn’t even mean that this device is noisy, with a noise output of mere 82 decibels.

This product has Powercyclone 5 technology that effectively separates dust from the suctioned air.

The on/off and the cord retract switches are on the base unit and meant to be foot operated. However, they seem to be appropriately distinguishable so there is no chance of getting confused as was the case with the previously reviewed product.

The product can be used pretty much on all surfaces in a domestic setup and effectively removes pet hair and dust.

It comes with standard attachments like extension pipes, a carpet cleaner, a fine nozzle, and a multi-surface cleaner along with another that is particularly handy.

This one has a permanently integrated soft brush and is useful enough to clean the entire house alone. The carpet cleaner also comes with an upgrade. It has a rotating brush inside that traps any stray hair and actively removes small dust from the carpet fibers.

The after-cleaning dust disposal is also quite easy with this product. It has a reusable dust collection chamber and it’s pretty easy to dispose of without too much exposure for people who might be sensitive. This vacuum cleaner also has a HEPA 10 washable filter.

The machine is lightweight and easy to maneuver over most surfaces because of its large wheels. The only complaint with this product might be that it overheats sometimes, however, that’s understandable with the stronger motor that it comes with.

All these slight improvements in features and suction power over the Amazonbasics vacuum cleaner come at a price though and this one is considerably higher in price.

However, the fact that Phillips didn’t provide a blower function at this price point is a bit odd. Even so, it’s a very powerful and effective product that comes with a 2-year warranty.

Who’s it for: If you’re looking for a powerful vacuum cleaner for all your domestic cleaning needs from a reliable name in the market and also don’t mind the slightly higher price tag, then go for this one.

Top 2 Wet and Dry Vacuum Cleaners: Detailed Reviews

#1: AmazonBasics Wet and Dry Vacuum Cleaner

Editor’s Rating: 7.5/10

This vacuum cleaner with blower and suction feature is the second Amazonbasics product that has made it to our list. This is because it offers versatile functionality and features at a very affordable price point.

This Wet/dry vacuum cleaner comes with a 1400 watts motor which provides sufficient power and suction for your daily domestic cleaning requirements.

While it is undeniably effective at picking up dry dust and debris, most people only consider buying a wet/dry vacuum cleaner if they are certain that they’ll be dealing with wet messes. So, let’s talk about the wet function.

It has a 20-liter tank and along with the strong motor, it sucks up all kinds of liquid messes efficiently. There is just one tank, though.

Further, there is a reusable bag that needs to be installed before starting the dry function while the wet function does not require any bag, the tank acts as the collection chamber. Sadly, there is no function for adjusting the suction power on this one, so you are left with a very strong suction even when you’re cleaning small messes.

It is great for cleaning wet carpet mess as that is something that can just not be done by hand. It can also speed up cleaning jobs like emptying pooled water and balcony cleaning.

There are many attachments with this product and between them, you can use this device on tiles, wooden flooring, carpets, upholstery, and even tight spaces like shelves. There is a blower function that is useful for the extremely hard-to-reach places or simply collecting large dry mess into a pile.

This product isn’t without its flaws, however.

The first is that the cord is not the longest, measuring only about 3 meters. However, if you do find it a bit short, you can always use the extension cord. The second drawback it doesn’t come with an auto cord retract function. You have to manually fold and tidy up the cord after every use. This is probably why the manufacturers kept the cord length short.

This device makes noise too but that is acceptable considering its 1400 watts motor. Although it comes with a HEPA filter, there is no mention of the grade of the HEPA on the product.

Aside from these few points, it’s a very easy-to-use product. The ergonomic handle and 360-degree rotation wheels make it easy to maneuver even through tight spaces. Although with that limited cord length you won’t be going far.

Safety is a prime consideration when you are combining water with any electrical appliance. So, this one comes equipped with a BIS plug and cable and a thermostat to protect against overheating.

The most exciting feature of this product, though, is its price point. It’s a steal for the features and the fact that it comes from a reliable manufacturer with a one-year warranty.

Who’s it for: If you’re looking for a cheap wet/dry vacuum cleaner that is versatile and safe to use, go for this one, it will not disappoint.

#2: AMERICAN MICRONIC 21 Litre Stainless Steel Wet & Dry Vacuum Cleaner

Editor’s Rating: 9/10

If you’ve never heard of this company’s name before, the fact that this is the best vacuum cleaner for home currently in India should be the perfect introduction to it.

This Wet & Dry vacuum cleaner by American Micronic is a powerful and long-lasting product that is made to be suitable for domestic and commercial use which is evident from its features.

For example, it has a stainless-steel body and can easily handle rough and continuous usage. Further, it has a powerful 1600 watts motor and boasts very impressive versatility.

It comes with a 5-feet flexible hose pipe that can be further extended with the two 1.5-feet extension pipes. Along with a 5-meter cord, these features give this vacuum cleaner a very large radius of operation.

This is great because this product is bulky and difficult to maneuver. Anything more than two to three steps will be a problem with this device. It’s definitely not meant to be carried frequently. However, the large wheels and the swivel base nullify the bulkiness well.

Since this device is meant for regular usage, it comes with a large 21-liter capacity for wet mess collection. There is a washable bag to collect the dry mess but it needs to be installed before starting dry vacuuming.

Moreover, there’s a floor-cum-carpet brush that is effective for both wet and dry vacuuming. The wet brush comes with two separate mouths and the standard upholstery and crevice nozzles have also been included.

The blower function has also been provided but the device lacks the expected automatic cord retraction function.

A flaw associated with its steel body is static buildup. This can end up feeling like it’s leakage of electricity caused by some kind of a malfunction. However, it isn’t and is a rare occurrence under very specific conditions, as per the manufacturers.

There’s a safety feature that prevents overheating of the product and this vacuum cleaner comes with a high-efficiency HEPA filter too. It is a very powerful and versatile machine and comes with a one-year warranty from the manufacturers.

Who’s it for: Whether you want a really sturdily built and powerful wet/dry vacuum cleaner for your home or business, go for this one. It has the power, the capacity, and the versatile functionality that you need.

As beautifully designed as it is, this device is very strong offering awesome suction power (5000 Pa). It is very effective at picking up large pieces of dust, food debris, dry waste, and pet hair with a single swipe.

Further, it can be used on any surface, like flooring, tabletops, countertops, shelves, car seats, upholstery, and even upholstery edges and corners.

These compact vacuum cleaners are meant to make cleaning small messes easy and fuss-free and it definitely does that, but no more.

It comes with a crevice nozzle to clean corners that comes in handy when cleaning car seats and car interiors. In fact, the design is such that it houses nicely in the car bottle holder.

The best part about this vacuum cleaner is that it has double-layer filtration.  There is a washable, steel net that rapidly filters larger particles of dust along with a grade-12 HEPA filter that captures 99.5% of particles smaller than 0.3 microns. This feature makes this product very safe for usage indoors by people who are sensitive or suffer from allergies. The filter is washable and so is the collection container.

#2: TUSA Wireless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner

Editor’s Rating: 9/10

There are not many compact vacuum cleaners in the market that can check all our boxes, and make it to our list of the best vacuum cleaners.

If they are compact, they will lack power. If they have power, they have a short run time. And, if they have all of those things, then they lack a HEPA filter.

This one is different which is why it is the best vacuum cleaner in India within the compact category. This compact vacuum cleaner from TUSA has everything.

It packs a powerful 120 watts motor that can effectively clean dirt, debris, stray hair, and crumbs. It has a washable, steel HEPA filter that is very sturdy and durable. Further, it can be used on multiple surfaces like hard flooring, tiles, carpets, car upholstery, and car mats.

While very few compact vacuum cleaners boast come with lots of accessories, this one does. It boasts a flexible extension hose, a crevice nozzle, and a dust brush. The flexible extension hose is particularly useful because it provides extra maneuverability for accessing hard-to-reach spots at home or in the car.

The best part about this vacuum cleaner is that it comes with both wired and cordless options. It takes about 3 hours to charge fully. Once fully charged, it can be used continuously for up to 25 minutes, which is one of the longest in this product and price segment. If you need more time, you can always switch to corded mode.

Another great thing about this vacuum cleaner is that it comes with two different types of chargers. There is the regular charger, that you can plug into the AC supply at home, and then there is also the car charger with a very long cable in case you want to store the vacuum cleaner in the boot.

It even comes with a bag for easy portability. All these features are available at an amazingly affordable price. In fact, we think it’s a steal for all the features it provides. There is also a 2-years warranty on this product.

Who’s it for: If you’re looking for the ultimate portable vacuum cleaner for cleaning around your home or car and do not want to compromise on the air quality indoor then go for this one.

Top 2 Stick Vacuum Cleaners: Detailed Reviews

#1: KENT Zoom Vacuum Cleaner

Editor’s Rating: 8/10

Kent is a very reliable name in the cleaning and home appliance market. In fact, if you consider the quantum of sales, this company probably manufactures the top vacuum cleaners in India.

Therefore, if you’re looking for the most convenient way to effectively clean your home, this Kent Zoom vacuum cleaner would be a great choice.

It is a cordless device that makes it very portable and maneuverable.

Further, its bagless nature makes it very light and easy to clean. A full charge takes about 4-5 hours and once charged it can be used continuously for 30 minutes.

With this product, you can effectively sweep large areas, be it tiles or carpets. While the design makes it the go-to option for sweeping floors and carpets, its practical accessories make it even more versatile.

There is a crevice tool for the hard-to-reach spaces and corners on upholsteries and a multi-nozzle brush that can be used on multiple surfaces like tabletops, shelves, and even window sills.

The product charges through a wall-mounted charging port that makes it easy to store too. We should add that this product cannot be used while it is charging.

The truly amazing part of this vacuum cleaner, though, is its pipe folding function. While it is a dream to use on the floor or the carpet, the folding function makes it useful on raised surfaces too. It allows the neck to fold in on itself, bringing you close to the surface you’re trying to clean.

After cleaning, the contents of the dust container can be easily disposed of without mess. There is a washable, high-efficiency HEPA filter that complements your cleaning efforts while reducing the chances of triggering allergies.

Further, there is one year warranty on this product and it comes at a decent price too.

Who’s it for: If you’re looking to clean carpeted areas or floors and just don’t like to be limited by hoses and cords, then this device is for you.

#2: Dyson V11 Absolute Pro Cord-Free Vacuum

Editor’s Rating: 9/10

The Dyson brand needs no introduction as it has been in India for quite some time and is widely considered to be one of the best brands in the vacuum cleaner market provided you can spend money.

The company has, in fact, changed user expectations with regards to technology integration in household appliances.

This new Dyson V11 Absolute Pro Cord-Free vacuum cleaner is the most advanced device in the market today and possibly the best vacuum cleaner for home in India.

It boasts the Hyperdymium motor that spins at 1,25,000 rpm, delivering powerful suction for deep cleaning the entire home. Further, its battery technology ensures that the device runs for up to 120 minutes on a full charge.

We don’t think anybody is looking to invest more time than that for cleaning daily. However, for the times that you’re on a cleaning spree, there is the option of changing the battery pack. The swappable battery, by the way, is optional and requires extra spending.

Charging this product means dropping it in the wall-mounted docking system, keeping everything neat and organized. Talking of accessories, there are enough to clean every surface that you can think of.

It comes with a torque drive cleaner head to clean carpets and a soft roller cleaner head to clean hard floors. Further, there’s a mini-motorized tool, a very versatile soft dusting brush, an up-top adaptor for cleaning ceilings and fans, an extension hose, and a crevice tool for corners. All the accessories are quick-release for smooth and speedy transitions from one surface to another.

Between the accessories and the fact that you can release the hose to effectively convert it into a compact vac, there is no surface, corner, or crevice that cannot be cleaned. This is a very light product too, only weighing 2.9 kgs when fully loaded with the long hose. Detach that and it’s even lighter.

Even though it doesn’t come with a HEPA filter, Dyson claims that it captures 99.99% of all dust particles below 0.3 microns in size. Incidentally, this filtration capability is even more impressive than what a grade-12 HEPA filter can achieve. We attribute this feat to this device’s fully-sealed system.

To further reduce exposure, there is a hygienic bin emptying system that ensures disposal at the touch of one button, when required. Even more impressive is that the device will tell you when to do that through an LCD screen. The LCD screen displays the power modes and remaining run-time too.

There are three modes in this vacuum – auto, eco, and boost. The eco mode optimizes the device for maximum run-time while the boost mode is for difficult to clean messes.

All these features don’t come without a price though. This happens to be the most expensive vacuum cleaner on our list and indeed the industry itself.

Dyson provides a 2-years warranty on the product.

Who’s it for: If you want the best and the most convenient cleaning experience that technology can provide and don’t mind shelling money for it, then get this one.

Top 2 Robotic Vacuum Cleaners: Detailed Reviews

#1: ILIFE V5s Pro Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

Editor’s Rating: 7/10

This is the future of home cleaning.

If you’re tired of cleaning on your own or wondering about the cost/benefit ratio of hiring domestic help, we can tell you in clear terms that you’re on track.

Robot vacuum cleaners will prove to be cheaper over time and the ILIFE V5s Pro Robotic vacuum cleaner is the perfect example.

This is a wet and dry vacuum cleaner, which means that it not only picks up dust and debris from the floor but also mops with a damp microfiber cloth. It has a 2600mAh battery that is charged through a ground-level charging port.

It takes about 350 minutes for a full charge and the robot can clean for up to 100 minutes after a full charge. Once a low level of the battery is detected the robot will automatically go to the charging station to charge.

It has a brushless motor and is capable of covering an area of up to 1500 sq. ft. effectively. It maps the area that it is meant to clean with infrared technology and has three modes to achieve any kind of cleaning.

The first mode is auto, which is suitable for most interiors. The second is the spot cleaning mode that takes care of messes in a particular spot. The third is the edge mode which ensures that the robot moves along the edges of the walls and the last is the scheduled cleaning mode for daily cleaning on a schedule.

It has a 300 ml dustbin and a 300 ml water tank that you have to fill before the robot can start cleaning. The water in the water tank is let out onto the microfiber cloth so that wet mopping can be achieved. The dampening of the cloth stops if the robot is picking up dry dust.

There are two modes for dry vacuuming and they have varied suction power. These are the normal mode where the suction is about 850 Pa and the max mode with a suction power of 1000 Pa. The max mode is for larger particles.

Further, it is equipped with sensors that ensure that it does not drop off a flight of stairs, does not bump into furniture, and can maneuver itself around obstacles like pets or people. It has truly never been easier to keep a clean home.

While it does clean, most people would question the quality of cleaning. This is fair because you cannot compare a robotic vacuum cleaner with a corded or even a chargeable vacuum cleaner that has very powerful motors.

Unlike those, it can’t deep clean your carpets, drawing out every speck of dust from deep into the fibers. What it can do is pick up dust from flat flooring in somewhat the same fashion as is achieved by hand cleaning with a broom and a mop.

While it definitely picks up dust, don’t expect it to pick up anything bigger than a few grains of pulses. So, if you’re looking to pick up dropped chips on the carpet, you might be a bit disappointed by the capabilities of a robotic vacuum cleaner. Further, another limitation of robotic vacuum cleaners is that they can only operate on floors.

What this robotic vacuum cleaner can do is achieve the cleaning achieved by domestic help by hand without the hassle of managing it. The light daily cleaning in an already somewhat clean home is where this robotic vac shines. While it does have HEPA filters, the grade is not mentioned. Fortunately, they’re replaceable and easily available.

It is can be integrated with Google Home and Alexa and can be controlled via an app. Further, it comes with a remote control that can be used to make the device go over the same area multiple times or just when you’re in the mood for driving a robo vac.

It is priced affordably for a robotic vacuum cleaner and the manufacturers are giving a 1-year warranty on the product too.

Who’s it for: This product is for people living in somewhat already neat homes with a clean and uninterrupted floor surface, looking to outsource their daily cleaning to technology.

#2: Viomi SE Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Editor’s Rating: 8/10

Viomi is a sub-brand of Xiaomi and Xiaomi needs no introduction in the technology market.

This Viomi SE robotic vacuum cleaner is for those who are already sold on the idea of a robotic vacuum cleaner and are now looking for the most effective and powerful one to commit the job to once and for all.

This product has a strong 2200Pa Japan-made brushless motor whose strength can be controlled from the Xiaomi Mi Home app. There are many other things that you can do via the app too, but we’ll get to that in a minute.

It also has a 3200mAh battery that runs for 120 minutes at one go and can clean an area of up to 2150 sq. ft. If you have an area that is bigger than that, simply opt for the recharge and resume function through the app. What this will do is, once the robo is charged again, it will resume function from where it left off.

This robotic vac sweeps, vacuums, and mops. It has a 300 ml dust box and a 200 ml water tank and has smart S and Y patterns of cleaning built into its AI for effective and powerful cleaning.

The best feature of this product is that it is equipped with LIDAR navigation that creates a 100% accurate map of your home and obstacles for complete coverage of all corners. There are anti-collision and anti-drop sensors too and the vac can cross obstacles up to 2 cm high.

Once an accurate map is created in the app, you can pretty much control the robo function any way you like. You can create no-go zones like bathrooms. You can schedule area-wise cleaning and you can even create virtual walls to limit the movement. The options are endless and you do get 100% coverage of the entire floor surface with this one.

There is a common complaint with all robotic vacuum cleaners of stray hair like pet dander getting stuck in the brushes, this one suffers from that problem too. You just have to clean it out manually every few days. Apart from that it offers a pretty robust cleaning solution and is also compatible with Google Assistant & Alexa.

It has a HEPA filter although the grade is not mentioned. All the added technology comes at a slightly higher price than your cheaper entry-level robotic vac. There is a 1-year warranty on this product.

Who’s it for: If you’re ready to control your home’s cleaning with an app and are just looking for the perfect robotic vacuum cleaner that can keep up, go for this one.
